Euro 2008 - Damn…And Wayne Was Bang Up For It Too!
It’s a sad time. The footie season is coming to an end and there’s some 12 long weeks of nothing. Yes I know, Euro2008, the good old European Championships, are looming but England aren’t there…yes we all know the story so let’s not depress ourselves anymore :(
I guess on the plus-side we won’t have to read all about the idiots who can’t handle their drink, but nonetheless, those evenings down the pub, the man-hugs, the testosterone scattering from the ceiling fan and showering the party…we’ll miss them.
And with our top striker Wayne Rooney on the way back to fitness (see pic) it looks like we missed our chance to see “Rooney vs Ronaldo, the Rematch”.
But maybe it’s for the best…Crouchy’s done his best bless, but there’s no escaping the fact that he’s an ugly beanpole with a gorgeous girlfriend, and be honest, we all hate people like that.
So there you go…no excitement for us Brits this Summer but maybe a few bets will make it a tad more interesting. Just looking at Betfair and see they have just launched their Euro 2008 odds and to make it even sweeter, are offering a free £10 bet to punters making their first bet there. Oooh….go on then.
If you aren’t familiar with the concept of Betfair, it allows you to either bet as a punter, or fancy yourself as a bookmaker and offer up your own odds to others. Leaving aside the latter, some of the pre-tournament prices we have on offer for the Euros are as follows:
Germany are pre-tourney favouries at (decimal) odds of 5.2. If you’re an idiot, you’ll go for Spain at 7.4. Every bloody year they are installed as one of the favourites and every bloody year they do an En-ger-land. Talk about perennial under-achievers. Just not worth backing in my eyes. Derby County Reserves would stand more chance of winning it than Espanol.
Looking past Italy, France and Ronaldo who are all sub-10.0, the longer odds offer a bit more fun. Greece at 32.0 maybe? Or Sweden at 40’s ? Hmmm…they ain’t that bad yah, yah? And Poland are down there at 60’s - dunno, there’s just something of the sleeping giant in Poland. But then there has been since around 1974…bloody Tomaszewski!
Anyway, there you go…have a happy summer watching the Krauts win a 0-0 on penalties and head on over to Betfair to look at the Euro 2008 odds before it’s too late and all the good prices go the way of Steve McClaren.
